Last Breakfast (well.... last food for a while)
On Monday I went up to the Royal Marsden for a Covid test. This is a routine screening test because I am having the colonoscopy procedure tomorrow (Thursday). It was an unusual journey for me because I had to pay for my travel as it was before the ‘old’ people are allowed to use their oysters (shock horror!). All went well until I arrived at Victoria where the ticket barrier refused to accept the card I use for Apple Pay on my phone. For some reason, it was declined and I had to actually speak to the customer service man at the barrier - cue dismissive attitude and patronising response.... resulting in me scrambling about in my bag to find my purse which held my real plastic bank card.
I walked through Belgravia, as is my chosen method of travel to Chelsea, marvelling as ever as I passed by estate agent windows, and watching the ‘other half living their lives’ and walking their wee children to select private schools.
Arriving at the endoscopy suite early, I sat with a couple of other attendees awaiting swab tests. I hadn’t needed to be there as early as they asked - I think I waited almost an hour before being called in.
The nurse gave me the envelope containing the bowel prep and instruction and explained the testing procedure. I had no idea it would be SO painful! All you people who’ve had it done already? I was amazed at how ghastly it was! And Charlotte? I have no idea how you managed to get your two little nippers to accept that!
I had intended to go into work once free - but the nurse pointed out that I had to self isolate! (Apart from the journey home on public transport, and back again tomorrow on public transport.......duh) so I had to call my lovely colleagues and let them know. Sorry to let you guys down.
I spent what might be the last day of summer yesterday potting around in the garden, and today is the day! BOWEL PREP...... oh goody. I am allowed breakfast at 9 am... no cereals, no brown bread, no fruit.... none of the normal breakfast choices that I might make - but YAY, I am allowed croissants! Co-op’s finest went down a treat, with a cup of tea (with milk).... it’s only when you’re not allowed it, you realise quite how many cups of tea (with milk) you might have in a day!
I’ve finished my laundry, done my ironing, finished a blanket, watched the Bake Off on catch up. Finished watching “Us” (on iPlayer, great drama - not exactly a comedy, as it’s billed). And now I’m hiding myself away from the kitchen (where there is constant temptation) and I’ve retired to my bedroom to binge watch some stuff and ponder my fate! I am ashamed to admit that I am also hooked on Selling Sunset - another excuse to ponder the lives lived by others!!! Thank you again to Charlotte for the recommendation - unbelievable that there are actually people in the world who are like this! (My excuse is that it’s perfect for distraction). I’m also planning to catch up with the latest episode of “All Creatures Great and Small” which is beautifully crafted - thanks to Emma for that recommendation! (I hope there aren’t too many scenes involving vets with their arms up cow’s backsides...... )
At 5 pm, I will be starting to consume the first litre of moviprep, and then the second litre will be consumed 3-4 hours later....... oh joy.
Reading the instructions leaves me somewhat daunted about the ensuing results - “you can go to bed when you stop going to the toilet”...... I would have thought that.
was.
