safe food transfer to monster son, knitting, crosswords and now 50% through!

Today I sauntered up to South Kensington with a much improved attitude - my second dose of brachytherapy was scheduled for 2.30 pm.

I went via Imperial College where I had to meet my errant youngest son who had neglected to take his food with him for the day (Ned is actually at the Royal College of Art, and not Imperial - but it's where we collided in the effort to do a safe food transfer). For those of you that know my 'baby', you'll recognise the need for his dietary intake to be taken care of.  So - half a catering sized tray of pizza, half a roasted cauliflower, salad, and half a cashew-milk rice pudding lighter - I trotted (and I CAN trot now) down the road to the Marsden. Here's a picture of said child to help fuel your imagination........

I was there early, in the Radiotherapy department (in the basement of course) and got my knitting out. I'm starting a new project (ignoring the hundreds of unfinished projects in my craft room) because as a Community Midwifery team, we're going to start a Knitting Natter Group (Stitch 'n bitch) and our first task will be to complete a blanket - everyone can knit a square ( or more )  and hopefully we experienced knitters will teach a few woolly virgins a few tricks on the way!

Anyway- I was a few stitches in when Caroline (the Brachytherapy Boss) came to get me....I love the fact that if you arrive before your scheduled appointment time, they'll get you in early if they can - this is not the case in Outpatients upstairs! Caroline is really cheery, and had reassured me so much on Monday, that I greeted her like a long lost sister.

One of the worst things about having any sort of invasive (or embarassing) therapy is that you are alone with your thoughts, and anxieties - so today, I asked if I could do the crossword while the radioactive capsule was doing its thing in my vaginal vault....... Apparently, no-one has ever asked to do the crossword before! Well - I listened to Ave Maria, and then Coldplay, and completed 8 clues from the Times Cryptic crossword, and it was all over! I almost felt cheated that I hadn't had time to do more of the crossword! Result.... I shall be taking the crossword with me next week too.

Isn't it strange that the kindness and reassurance of just one person can make such a difference to your mood and attitude? On Monday, I was uncharacteristically fearful - today, I feel great. I managed to get away by 3 pm - and dodging the school commuters at East Croydon, safely arrived home to find a poorly Peter lying on the sofa watching Harry Potter........ retiring to the kitchen, and leaving him to his misery, I finished the ironing and got the supper ready.

SO now - here I am.... one week away from the end of the Brachytherapy treatment - and wondering what life is going to throw at us next!

I have signed up to participate in the Banham Marsden March on March 10th. If anyone reading this would like to join my team, that would be fantastic. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ned will be our Standard Bearer for team Maddy's Minions - and he has suggested that he might even dress up in drag! If I can get the rest of my boys to join the team, I shall.........

Here's the link if you'd like to participate. Join my team - Maddy's Minions!

I've done loads of sponsored events in my life - but I can't recall ever raising funds for a cancer related charity before - I usually raise money for  Friedreich's Ataxia...some of you may remember my 60th birthday bungee jump! I'm not sure if Blogger will allow me a video - I'll try.... I've just watched it again - and it makes me realise that LIFE IS FOR LIVING!

If no video- a picture will suffice!
