feeding the Succarath.......

I've had a lovely couple of days.

Yesterday, my awesome colleague (good ol' Susan Sammons) came over and spent a few hours helping me put up christmas decorations. I had intended going out for a walk - but the weather was shitty - so staying in and decorating the tree was a much better option! We enjoyed it - chatting and gossiping and making the place look pretty. - so much easier with two!

Because I mentioned yesterday that we were out of basic food supplies, and I'd had to order an internet shop - I have had various offers of food parcels- thank you all - but honestly, you don't want to even start thinking about feeding a Succarath the size of my baby Ned! (This was a word I first heard on Call my Bluff in the 1970s, and my cousin Simon and I have, for some strange reason, remembered it ever after.......the definition at the time was 'a monster of indescribable proportions', but googling it since leads me to believe that it is a sloth-like creature discovered by Magellan in Patagonia.... google it - then you might have some idea what its like to cater for a child until they become the Succarath.333

Yesterday evening, Peter and I were going to sit and watch TV - he is reluctant to do the binge watching of  Outlander - not his thing, apparently..... - it took us about an hour to discuss what might suit us - either on Amazon Prime, or on Netflix - we fell about laughing whenI asked over and over "So? What's this one about?" and Peter would reply : "It's about a robot...." "NO!" I would reply, without allowing him to even finish his description.
Now I know (and so do you now) why I tend to sit in the kitchen watching programmes like Bake Off, and the Great British Pottery Throwdown, whilst my dearly Beloved lies on the sofa watching anything which has a title which includes: 'mega', 'mighty', 'extreme', 'massive', or basically is about an idiotic individual who likes to challenge himself to live in the jungle with nothing but a pair of pants on. Eventually, we agreed upon "Bridget Jones Diary" and thoroughly enjoyed it. One really does forget how good those early 90s films were (which tended to have Hugh Grant in, or Colin Firth).... lovely. I also remember why my surrogate daughter Ali is still known to all and sundry as "Bridge"....... hahahahahaha

Today, I was determined to sort through the decorations which I am no longer going to use - sorted them all out - and , along with lights I shall never use again - they've gone to the charity shop.

The shopping arrived (all £250 worth of it) and I spent the rest of the morning sorting it and bagging and storing away everything I'd purchased. My colleague Vicky came round with Nala, her cockapoo, and spent a lovely few hours with me .... Nala particularly enjoyed the bagging of the red meat for the freezer.....not all the purchased protein ended up in the freezer, I have to admit.

Vicky and I went for a stroll down my local High Street - this is actually the very first time I've walked further than around the house - and it was great - didn't feel too uncomfortable at all.

Today, I was determined to try to manage without analgesia - and up to this point, I haven't had any - I might just take some before bed - in order to try to facilitate a good night's sleep.... good sleep is not something that has eluded me since surgery - I'm afraid it's eluded me since the menopause hit me about 6 years ago..... all you ever hear about is hot flushes - believe me - boys and youngsters.... hot flushes are nothing compared with insomnia and palpitations!!! Hopefully, once I've recovered from the hysterectomy, the ghastly attendant symptoms will disappear too..... if not, I'm sure Clodagh's Rioja stash will come in useful.......

This evening, another fabulous colleague did arrive with food (and flowers)  - Pauline brought us a sausage casserole for our supper tonight....... we are going to eat this shortly....... Peter is sitting next to me saying "I'm hungry...."

You've all been so supportive and kind to me (and us), I feel really delightfully overwhelmed. we are lucky (as I've said before) to have wonderful friends and family.

My recovery is going brilliantly well and for all those asking for news - I won't know about adjuvant therapy until next Tuesday when I have my follow up appointment at the Fulham Road  Marsden, for histology results.

I also have a geneticist appointment at the Sutton Marsden next week, and another the following week at Sutton too to see the lymphoedema nurses. - not because I have lymphoedema, but becasue I want to avoid it!!!!

Take care all - I'm going to dish up our food. Thanks Pauline, Vicky and Susan who have been angels of mercy over the last 48 hours........

  1. You're very welcome my lovely friend. You have some beautiful decorations. Now tell us, what did Nala pinch from the shopping? Tilly would have done the same!
Bless Pauline and her wonderful cooking, I hope you've enjoyed your supper 😁 See you on Thursday xx
