Friends, friends and more friends.

Today I am mostly thankful for my fantastic workmates (who are all great friends too - young and old)

We had a meal out last night at Pizza Express (does anyone ever pay full price at P E??) A sort of
Party that’s normally reserved for baby showers and retirements - didn’t quite know what to call it......a hysterectomy party? A cancer party? A LIFE party?
Anyway- it was great to see all those beautiful faces....... it was wonderful to catch up.....it was lovely to not be worrying about work.....it was heartwarming to see so many of those kind, empathetic, loving midwives all out (and on a school night too) to see me before my brush with the robot in a week’s time.

What’s more - they gave me the most mahoosive hamper of goodies! Loads and loads of presents - craft room gifts, edible gifts, comfort gifts, drinkable gifts, humorous gifts, growing gifts....... gifts galore. Helen came home with me to carry the hamper and to watch me open them all up.  AMAZING......... (and I know who’s responsible for organising such a huge hamper....thank you missus stormtrooper) (initials.......)

If cancer does nothing else (and I hope it doesn’t)..... it has shown me the benefit of having lovely lovely lovely friends................

I have had the busiest social life since my diagnosis, and I am treasuring this time. Today I am off to Kew Gardens with another one of my oldest friends (another ice hockey widow) and we shall chat, and laugh and gawp at the autumn colours on glorious show. Sadly I’m going to miss the Streatham Strumpet night out (ice hockey girlfriends from 30+ years ago) at the O2 arena (because it will be only a few days after my surgery) but we’ll do a re-run for a Strumpet Christmas lunch the week before Christmas - and I know that there will be many more laughs and good times to be had.

Feeling blessed.

Feeling thankful.

(And only a tiny bit hungover..........)

    What a great night! It was such fun seeing all the gifts coming into work for you. Everyone loves and values you so much. There is still more to come which will be revealed later!

"Over the Top"

Today was the day that I had to go to the Marsden for the first of my four brachytherapy sessions. I was feeling truly anxious about this. Much more so than before my date with the robot.......  All the research I have done has led me to worry that the side effects can be truly horrid - and I was feeling quite anxious, and that now, six weeks after my hysterectomy, I'm feeling physically almost back to normal (apart from slightly larger), I was agreeing to a session of being fried on the inside - with the consequences perhaps being long term. Appointment was at 3 pm this afternoon, with the request to get there half an hour early.  I went for a dog walk with my colleague Susan (and Tilly the Sprocker) in the morning, in an effort to keep busy. A wonderfully boring life - pale winter blues

 It’s a new year…… 2024…. The year that I shall celebrate my 68th birthday. This is scary. How can I possibly be two years off SEVENTY?  (I shall leave that question hanging there for a moment, all on its own….. just for effect) Tempus fugit - my father used to like to say on a regular basis. I think my grandfather favoured this Latin two word expression as well. I understood what it meant for as long as I can remember - many years before I actually studied Latin (which I loved - and yes….. I do think it’s a fabulous subject for children to learn - especially reading Asterix books in Latin  - which is how Ned started) I heard Rod Stewart quoting a saying once during an interview: “Life is like a toilet roll - the nearer you get to the end, the faster it goes”. This is a lot more words than the simple Latin adage, but I love it - it’s so bloody true!
